New Novel Completed: Walked a Gravel Lane
I just finished my new novel, Walked a Gravel Lane. Set on Long Island in 1922, it follows Phil Stewart, an aging Civil War veteran living alone, and Tim McCloskey, a young man carrying the weight of a more recent war and a troubled home. When their paths cross, the two form an unlikely bond rooted in work, routine, and a shared understanding of violence, loss, and endurance.
The story unfolds quietly, focused on daily life, memory, and the ways people pass something of themselves to others without ever naming it. It’s not a war novel, a historical novel, or a coming-of-age story in the usual sense—but it carries pieces of all three.
It’s a book about legacy, responsibility, and what it means to keep moving forward when the past refuses to stay buried.
