November 13, 2007 Update on "It's a Movie!"
Recently I posted about a young director and her cinematographer who both are making a short story I wrote over twenty years ago into a movie. This will be a lengthy process expected to take several months and I didn't expect to get an update in so soon. However, I am happy to report that I met with the writer/director today, and she said she was well on her way into writing the first draft of the script. Wow, this is actually happening!

I am definitely on cloud 9. It was also really cool to meet with her today and see that she is really excited about this project too. To think that someone thinks enough about a short story I wrote over twenty years ago to create a film from it is mind blowing. I know this is not a major motion picture, but she has every intention of promoting this one like all of her projects. This will be the sort of short film her and her partner in her production company will use to enter into independent film festivals and the like. I sincerely appreciate you sharing in my good news. Thank you for your words of congratulations. As for collaborating with the writer/director of this project, I am definitely "hands off". This is her baby, even though she has been very gracious and supportive of my writing. My role in this will be to hang around the set while it is being filmed and grub food and coffee and being a general pain in the ass. Ha ha. Thanks for the support, and I am sure it is going to be a wild ride. Right now, even though this isn't going to be a million dollar, major-motion-picture, I am feeling pretty good about myself. This young woman is going places, and one day I can tell people that I had a short film made by her when she was still fairly new in the business. Here's a young director, writer, and producer who graduated college and has always worked in film. She never had the typical retail type jobs that most college kids have to take to make ends meet; and she's always been on a movie set. This is a person who is driven, dedicated, hard working, and, most importantly, resourceful. There will be bumps in the road, but, right now it's a pretty flat ride. Thanks for stopping by. The director thought about casting me for a small role, but the major stumbling block is that I can't act. Real actors are being cast for this, and unfortunately, there are only three main charcters. There's not even a crowd scene for me to peek out of.
